You may be aware of a press release and media articles over the weekend regarding measures to be implemented in NSW schools in response to COVID-19. I have received official notification regarding changes to the Department of Education’s response to this issue.
As a result, the following measures are now in place until further notice:
* We will not be holding whole school assemblies or larger gatherings of students or parents, this will include our fortnightly Friday assembly and the Easter Hat Parade.
* All current school excursions have been cancelled including Year 6 MHS Orientation, PSSA Gala Days and carnivals.
* Daily assemblies have been cancelled and students will go directly to their classroom.
* Any staff or students who are unwell with respiratory illness should remain at home until symptoms resolve and, where appropriate, seek advice from a medical practitioner (and call ahead first). Children with chronic medical conditions or immunosuppression may be at increased risk of disease and I would encourage parents to seek advice from their healthcare provider.
* The school will send home any student or member of staff who shows signs of being unwell at school.
* All soap dispensers in toilets and classrooms are working and full.
* Students have been given reminder lessons in best hand washing and hygiene practices as well as promoting cough and sneeze etiquette.
The situation involving COVID-19 is an evolving one and measures taken by the school may change as circumstances and advice from NSW Health and the Department of Education changes. It is the current intent of the Department of Education to keep schools running and so the school is operational, with lessons running as normal.
